to be honest wei wuxian sucks at holding grudges and he’s really only mad at nie huaisang for all of the lying and the subterfuge for, like, a month tops. he keeps it up for way longer than that just for show, though, and drops pointed phrases about scheming schemers who scheme into all his letters home to wangji, knowing that huaisang is likely to find a way to read them, to cover for the fact that he’s far more impressed than he is wary, and one day about six months into his road trip he sees something that reminds him of an old inside joke of theirs and immediately forgets he’s supposed to be being mad at him, dashes off a letter enclosing said joke to qinghe posthaste and nie huaisang sends him back a letter that says hey old pal, aren’t we supposed to be locked in tense political stalemate over our respective abilities to end society as we know it with a few well-placed words or whistles? stop passing me notes in class you arrogant bastard and that’s it. it’s back on baby
